Hi all,

I have an issue I hope you can advise on.

I'll be applying in August at the consulate in London, but noticed that my GGF's Italian birth certificate doesn't contain the middle name used on all of his UK documents.

Do you think this will be an issue? Everything else matches up perfectly.

Thank you.

Louie.

It's always hard to determine how difficult a consulate will be, but I'm guessing it will be ok.

Perhaps the middle name was the name he took at confirmation. If you can get the confirmation records, it may help to establish the reason that name was added.

Thanks Emily.

Do you mean his naturalization? I have a copy of this document already, and it includes his middle name 'amanzio'.

No, I did mean confirmation.

Catholics take a "confirmation name" when they receive this sacrament. I was thinking that he began to use his confirmation name as his middle name on subsequent documents.

I doubt it will be needed, but if you had records that showed this, it would explain why the middle name was added.

However, I certainly wouldn't stress over this. It's just another bit of evidence to connect the man born with no middle name to the man who subsequently used a middle name.

That makes a lot more sense!

I just did a double check and Sant'Amanzio was born in Canterbury UK, but was venerated as the third bishop of Como (where my family own a house).

Thank you so much Emily, it's very interesting to have found that out. I'll see if there's any documents relating to his confirmation I can dig up.
